Latest News 7th June 2017

To all those persons who have registered their interest in the Aboyne Men's Shed (AMS), over 100 of you, here is the Trustees update of progress. You will also note two opportunities to meet with us this month where you can ask any questions, see the facility design on June the 17th, and of course give your support.

The major milestone recently achieved was submission to Aberdeenshire Council of a planning application for a new build Shed. All the drawings and detail are on the Aberdeenshire Council website. We gratefully acknowledge Aboyne Castle Estate in agreeing to provide the site, and also

the generous professional support of Gerry Robb in matters of design and the planning application.

Additionally significant progress has been made with securing funding from a number of sources with promising progress being made in obtaining support of a major funder. While timescales to achieve the necessary approvals are tight, we are pleased by the support of Aberdeenshire Council and Officials in encouraging the Trustees to press forward with the project which if on schedule should be completed in Q3/Q4 next year.

Subject to Planning Approval the Shed will be a two-storey design. It will incorporate a full length upper floor with a large social area and kitchen, with the lower level being the main workshop area giving a total floor area of around 360m2. The completed AMS will then serve as a Community facility and social hub available to other groups regardless of gender. Further details of the design can be obtained by visiting us at either of the two forthcoming events listed below. These events are also opportunities for you to have your say in what workshop and other facilities you would like to see provided. We are also keen to learn of any skills that you will be able to bring to the Shed.

June 17th. Aboyne Community Open Day organised by the  Aberdeenshire Voluntary Action. This event which showcases community groups runs between 10 am and 12 pm  and will be held in the Victory Hall. AMS are participating so we do hope you will come along and see us.

June 24th. Car Boot sale on the Green in the morning.  One of our fund raising events and a great way to see us. We need contributions and of course your business for all those things you didn't know you needed. For contributions contact Dave Marshall on 01339887711/ 07786143520, or email us at

The Co-op. - The Co-op as you were informed is sponsoring three Charities of which AMS is one. You have the choice to nominate all three or just AMS. 1% of all you spend on Co-op branded goods goes to your selected charitable organization/s, hopefully AMS. The easiest way is to freephone 0800 068 6727.

In closing, the Trustees wish to thank the continued support of the many individuals, organisations, local businesses and all those of you on our “interested parties list” without whom this exciting  and beneficial community facility would not be viable.
